Innovative solutions and teaching aids for digital teaching in science and technology

Aachen, 17 August 2023 - S-UBG AG, the leading regional investment company for SMEs, is acquiring 100 percent of the shares in the LD DIDACTIC (LD) group of companies from the pan-European alternative investment group AURELIUS as part of a management buy-out (MBO) together with Managing Director Martin Petzl.

Expansion of sales activities

"We have successfully emerged from the pandemic and are seeing an overall increase in demand for products for digitalised teaching," says Martin Petzl, who has managed the company since 2020 and played a leading role in initiating the MBO. "I am delighted to have found a reliable regional partner in S-UBG, who will support us in further expanding our portfolio and sales and placing new products on the market. In the field of technology, our focus is on automotive and electrical engineering, energy transition, energy transmission and SMART GRID. In the area of science, we are focusing on the further virtualisation and digitalisation of the experiment portfolio as well as sustainability issues such as climate change."

"LD makes a valuable social contribution to modern, digital education with numerous solutions worldwide," says Dr Ansgar Schleicher, CEO of S-UBG. "We are convinced that Martin Petzl and his team will continue to drive the success of LD in the coming years."

Promising market development

The market for scientific experimental equipment grew by around 16 per cent to 2.2 billion euros between 2020 and 2022. Average growth of around 7 per cent per year is expected until 2027. Experts expect above-average growth in emerging markets in Africa and Asia in particular. The increasing digitalisation of teaching and experimentation is seen as a driver. According to forecasts, the proportion of digital science experimentation solutions is set to increase by 150 per cent by 2027. However, the influx of refugees may result in a short-term need for further investment in school capacity, both in Germany and in some other European countries.
